On Bourbon, Boobs, and Beads (Trust me, there's a connection.)

It's Deb Erika's Debut Week over at The Debutante Ball.

Come on over for a chance to win her deliciously rich novel, Little Gale Gumbo.

But as long as you're here, tell me...have you ever been to New Orleans?

I haven't. Not yet.

I know! Weird, huh? Seems like Mardi Gras would be just my cup of...well, something pleasantly alcoholic, doesn't it? But alas. It just hasn't happened yet.

I do, however, have tons of those plastic beads.* That must be almost as good as going, right?

Okay, maybe not.

So, if you've been to New Orleans, what did you like best? (I'll bet the food is high on your list.)

If you haven't been, do you ever plan on going?

*No, I didn't get them by flashing my boobs. I told you, I've never even been to Bourbon Street. Though I do like the name.

No, I've never been to New Orleans - not yet anyway. I pretty much want to go everywhere.

Never even been to the US! PS: Love your new blog look! How long has it been like this? Am I now embarrassing myself? lol

Come on, Linda! You know you wanna flash your boobs!!
Haven't been to New Orleans yet. But i wanna go. And flash my boobs.

Patsy -- Me too. Well, maybe not Antarctica. Too cold. Brrr.

Jessica -- It's been this way for a while now. But nothing to be embarrassed about -- I'm just happy to see you again. :)

Dawn -- LOL! Oh, I flash my boobs all the time. But just at one guy. ;)

Ha! I've been and I'd go again if I knew when you were flashing LOL!

I haven't been. I'd like to go, but I'm lame enough to want to go during Lent, and ONLY go out during the day.

No desire to flash anything. Someone might run away.

Note to self: Inform K-pop when I'll be flashing N'awlins.

Shakespeare -- If I'm stupid (or drunk) enough to flash N'awlins, it will only be after dark. Complete dark, with no artificial lighting. That way, I won't scare anyone, either. ;)

Never been, but would like to go to try the food. I hear it's delish. NO boob flashing for me. Some people might think I have funny looking knees.

I've been! (Pre-Katrina)

Saw Ann Rice's house, walked down Bourbon Street, ate ant Emeril's restaurant, had a beignet, etc...
The food was awesome--but the best place I ever ate was Charleston.

Linda, I don't think I realized you've never been to New Orleans, my dear! Oh, we are going to have to remedy that--STAT!

You'd love it. Bourbon (St and drink) aside, it is like no where else on earth. Lush and textured and just so steeped in a pervasive joy for life and its bounty, it's a must.

Deb Ball reunion? Just a thought...

I've been twice, and am currently revising a ms set there (in 1810). I'm sure it doesn't surprise you to find out that the history is my favorite part of the city. The streets, and trees, and even the air seem heavy and thick with hundreds of years of secrets.

I love the legacy of tolerance and fun, and remembering that cutting loose is okay.

And yes, the food is pretty good too :)

I hope to visit again soon.

Anne -- LOL! You are too funny, my dear.

Jennifer -- Fun! Mmmm. Beignets. I want one!

Erika -- Deal! That would be so much fun. Especially with you to show us all the best spots.

Trisha -- Not surprised at all, you history buff, you. Tolerance and fun -- what could possibly be better?

i'm going to new orleans in january. my first trip! it's for a college roommate's bachelorette party, so it's going to be a bit wild, though not so much of the flashing variety. wild in the sense of drinks and beignets and giggles......

I'd love to go to New Orleans...but definitely NOT during Mardis Gras. Crowds and drunken people? Not my thing. I'll go sometime when it's quiet(er). Like when everybody has hangovers from Mardis Gras. :)

I've never been, but even if I had, there'd be no beads for me. Because, honestly, no one needs to see that.

Steph Schmidt said...

I haven't been, honestly I have no intention of going either. Humidity and me aren't the best of chums. Even if I have an alcoholic distraction ;)

Linda G. said...

Abby -- Oh, I'm jealous! That sounds like so much fun, even sans flashing. ;)

Suzerooni -- I totally understand your feelings. Well, except for preferring to be around people with hangovers. That part I'd skip.

Delia -- LOL! Hey, I'm told by certain male members of family that there's no such thing as bad-looking boobs. ;)

Steph -- Humid, huh? Yeah, I'm not too fond of that, either. And neither is my hair. #fuzzball

Yes, I've been, and I LOVED it. The fresh seafood, the party atmosphere, the amazing jazz oozing out every door on Bourbon Street, sitting in the garden at Pat O'Brien's place sipping Irish whisky. What's NOT to love?

I've never been to New Orleans but I really wish I'll get around to it someday. Considering the cost and time for going across the Atlantic, it might be a while though...

If you go, please share everything! YES. Everything.

Linda G. said...

Susan -- Not much not to love that I can see. Sounds amazing. :)

Malin -- LOL! Well, maybe ALMOST everything. ;)

I live on the wrong side of the pond to ever get there, but it's on my very very long list of places to see if I win the lottery :-)

I've been years ago. I think I was too young to really appreciate it. I do remember liking it a lot. Beautiful and with a different vibe than other cities. Kind of a mischievious, something-fun-is-about-to-happen, vibe.

Linda G. said...

Sarah -- Sounds like a perfectly sensible use of lottery winnings to me. :)

JJJ -- Love that kind of vibe!

Linda, I'm passing the friendly blogger award on to you. You'll like it - it's sort of camel coloured.

My mom lived in New Orleans for a while. I could go on and on about what I love about the city, but I have two words for you: Lafitte's Bar. We should go sometime.

No, I've never been to New Orleans, but I definitely want to! I'd really like to see all the historic homes!

And cemeteries. Yeah, I would definitely visit the cemeteries.

I got the connection from the title. I wonder what that says about me? :-)

I have been, and have to say, not my favorite place to visit. But the food, ahhh, the food, that I might make a return trip for.

Nawlins. That's what the locals call it. Have I been? Yes, I have. Many, many times. New Orleans is a city of great history and culture. She is a sultry vixen full of lilting cadences and magical properties. The food is amazing and the sounds that come from the French Quarter are inspiring. You can see something different around each corner. If you go, make sure you check out Cafe Du Monde. The chicory will put hair on your chest but the beignets are awesome. We once made a trip in just for this treat. The main location is the one you want to check out. The one in the French Market located on Decatur Street. There are many other places I could recommend in the Quarter if you decide to go and visit. It is definitely worth it and you don't need to wait for Mardi Gras to enjoy this awesome city.
