Sticking my nose in here to say...

I'm just about done with the copyedits for Quick Fix. Yay, me!

(BTW, that is not my nose. That is a camel's nose. Because it's Hump Day. Again. I've been studying this phenomenon for a while now and have finally come to the conclusion that Hump Days tend show up at one-week intervals, typically on a Wednesday.)

However, no rest for the wicked, because I have received the first pass pages* for the mass market paperback edition of In a Fix, so now I have to read that with my fine-tooth glasses on. (I know. What an awkward metaphor. But you know what I mean.)

As crazy-making as overlapping deadlines can be, I am still thrilled to see that In a Fix will be out in another (even cheaper!) printed format.

And (*drum roll*) BOTH books have been purchased by Recorded Books for audio release! How cool is that? I can't wait to actually hear them read by somebody who's not me. I'm also mildly terrified at the prospect, because what if the narrator doesn't sound anything like Ciel's voice in my head? Have any of you writers had a book recorded yet? Was it totally weird to hear a stranger read your words out loud?

Anyway, the release schedule for this year is:

June 1, 2013: In a Fix audio book.

June 4, 2013: In a Fix mass market paperback

Aug. 20, 2013: Quick Fix Trade paperback

Sept. 1, 2013: Quick Fix audio book

Okay, now I have to get back to the old grindstone...

Notice how I cleverly added the word "copyedits" to the grindstone with my mad Microsoft Paint skillz. (Ha!)

What's the word on your grindstone these days?

Also, do you think the camel pictured above is:

(A) cute

(B) ugly

(C) ugly-cute

(D) noble, like all camels

(E) you don't give a flying flip about camels and wish Linda would find another theme for her Wednesday posts

*AKA The Last Chance for the Author to Fix Anything pages. So it's very important to read them with care.

How awesome!
I didn't know that you had to do another round of proof-reading for a paperback copy of the book. Is that in case any errors were made while changing the format?

And it is very exciting to have your books become an audiobook, but I would be nervous about the same thing you are. What if you don't like the way the narrator reads it? What if she doesn't get the emphasis or beat right on your favorite lines? *bites nails*

All I know is that the Kindle reads my books very dryly. ;P

Dianne -- LOL! Yeah, I had the same experience with my Kindle reading IN A FIX. It was really kind of hilarious. And, yeah, proofing for the mass market edition is just to make sure nothing got screwed up during the transition.

That's so cool!! I know a woman who only "reads" audio books because she can't process them right when she reads visually. I'll be sure to shove them under her nose. :D

Oh, and D. Of course.

That is so cool! I have a feeling that listening to your own book in audio form would be like watching yourself in a movie...neither of which I think I could do. But I'll listen to YOUR book (and watch YOU in a movie).

Delia -- That would be cool! Maybe she could ask her local library to stock the audio books, because day-yam, those things are expensive to buy. *grin*

Teri Anne -- I suspect you're right. It'll be hard, but I'm going to try to pretend I didn't write the words when I'm listening. And thanks! :)

I've always wanted to do an audio book but I want someone with a British accent to do it. I mean they're all set in England right.
And that's how I write the dialogue, with that lovely regal tone.

As for the camel, he's ugly-cute. But I still wouldn't kiss him.

Best with all your edits.

Anne -- A British accent would be perfect for your books. And I can't believe you wouldn't kiss that adorable face! *grin*

Congrats on all of it! And I'd have to go with ugly cute;)

Congrats on the audio-books! Who decides on the narrator? Do they do auditions? You'd think the author would get some input, but I guess that's the "logic" of the publishing industry.

The camel is ugly-cute, and my current grindstone is my WIP. I'm at that stage where I have a few last plot decisions to make and then it'll all come rushing out. Maybe today...

Cute and noble!

I'm jealous too - I love copy editing. Coffee, a red pen, a comfy couch, cats...

I think he's just adorable.

Wait, what? Don't lose the camels. I love them. Not in a kissable way, though.
I'm so happy that your books are going to be out there in so many formats.
More people happy laughing. That's what we need right now!

Oh, wow! If your book is going to audio format, that must mean it's doing as well as I expected it to. Woo HOO! (Whoever reads it better do it justice!)

Whoo-hoo! I'm so excited that both books will be out on audio! Fabulous news, since as you know I'm an avid audiobook reader. Even though I've read them, I love listening. Adds a whole new dimension to the story. I wouldn't worry too much about the reader. You said Recorded Books picked up the option and they are usually very good with pairing up the perfect reader to the story. They do Diana G.'s books, after all. Congrats on the happy news!

CUTE! And...is that king's pants around his ankles? What might they hold to the grindstone next, me wonders. ;-)

How can anyone not like today's camel? It brought exciting news! I'm sure the audiobooks will turn out great (so long as no hump day camels are harmed OR used in the process ;)
