Friday Can Be a Real Mother. (With Bonus Cake Pic.)

And I mean that in the best possible way. I even wrote about it over at The Debutante Ball today. Click here to see for yourself.

See, my darling daughter's birthday was yesterday, and it made me realize I have now been a mother longer than I haven't. Wow. How'd that go by so fast?

Anyway, we'll be seeing our Fabulous Firstborn this weekend (YAY!). If I were a good mother, I'd make her a cake like this:

Because she's very into airplanes.

Or maybe a cake like this:

Because she's a super-talented knitter.

Or even one like this:

Or:

Because, yannoh, dragons. And Star Trek. How cool would that be?

But, alas, I do not have that kind of cake-decorating mojo, so TG and I (and her little brother (who's way bigger than she is) too) will take her out to dinner instead. And get her whatever dessert she wants. :)

What would your theme cake be?

(Mine would be a stack of books. Or a laptop. Or maybe horses. I like horses.)

Have a wonderful weekend! :)

UPDATED to add this BREAKING NEWS: Kimberly Sabatini is giving away an ARC of In a Fix on her blog today. If you'd still like to get your hands on your own copy, click here. Oh, and tell her I said hi. :)

Yeah, the stack of books for me, too. Going over to the ball now to see what you're up to there.

Love that knitting cake. Awesome. I don't know what kind of cake I would want, but it would have to be chocolate. Lots and lots of chocolate.

Heading over to the ball.

Ooh, ooh, could I have a cake depicting a holodeck program aboard the Enterprise in which dragons who knit hang out at the airfield alongside the planes? ;-)

I love you, Mom, and I can't wait to see you!

Very cool!!! And yeah, I'm with you about the non baking thing. LOL! Just make mine chocolate!!!

as long as the cake is chocolate with chocolate icing, the shape doesn't matter.

That knitting cake is way cool. I like grandiose things, so maybe instead of a stack of books, an entire library with shelves and stuff. And a rolling ladder. Yeah.

Happy birthday to your daughter!

Fun! I love those cakes. My Mom used to make me monstrous cakes like that when I was a kid. I would like one that is a camera. ;-) Have a wonderful weekend with your first born!

I like...cake cake. Maybe ice cream cake. But that knitting one is super cool. Have a good weekend with your babies!

I'm with Trisha...I don't really care what it looks like. As long as it's CAKE and it's YUMMY and it doesn't have lard frosting. :))

Have fun, bb!

I've made theme cakes for other people before, but have never had one myself, so if I ever had one it'd have to be awesome. Nah, who am I kidding? I don't care what it looks like, as long as it tastes good. And has absolutely no calories.

I've just been discussing my wedding cake with the lovely lady who's making it. It's going to be ... unusual! She's going to recreate our first ever sort of date in chocolate sponge and sugar frosting.

Is that dragon A CAKE???

Heading over to the Deb's Ball.

I guess my cake would have to be a camera.

I'm going to say something absolutely mad, so pardon mwah, but....I'm not a huge fan of cake. I eat it because well, it's sugar and I NEVER turn down sugar, but I much prefer ice cream or chocolate. Now if I could have ice cream shaped into something...it'd probably be Hugh Jackman. Or a book. No. Hugh. :-)
