Texas Heat and the ICU

I'm still here in Texas. It's HOT. But on the up side, I've had some great Mexican food.

Thank you all for your good thoughts and prayers. Mom came through the surgery with flying colors. She's had a little trouble with A-fib (arterial fibrillation -- "palpitations") since waking, but the medication is helping.

(Hmm. Wonder if she'll share...)

If all goes well, she'll get out of the ICU today, and into a more comfortable room. Her doctors and nurses have been universally wonderful. They've turned a horrendous experience into something bearable.

The poor things also now know I'm a writer, because Mom insists on telling everyone who comes into her room, whether it's to take her blood or adjust her wires and tubes, that her daughter is going to be published. And then, being Mom, she also adds, "It took her long enough."

Ah, moms. You gotta love 'em.

Anyway, I'll be here for a while longer. Internet coverage at the hospital is spotty, so you may not see much of me, but I'm thinking of you all. Really missing making my blog rounds, too. Can't wait to catch up when all this medical mess is behind me.

Damn, I missed this altogether, and didn't even know your mom was ill or that you were gone. Proof I've been way too busy. So glad she's doing well and you're hanging in there.

Having spent many, many long hours in various stages of hospitals with my dad this year, I can say that cardiac ICU peeps are the best. Cute male nurses, and the coffee bar guy wasn't bad, either.

Can't say much for the couch that is supposed to masquerade as a guest bed, tho...

Oh no! I had missed you but was hoping you were off doing something wonderful. Well, more wonderful than being such a supportive child. "It took you long enough..." Love it! Big hugs to you lady!

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your mom and an escape from the Texas heat for you! Moms can be the very best PR you get. They can blather on and on about your book, while you blush and say, "Oh, stop it!" (Inside, of course, you are rooting for her to go on and making a mental note to print bookmarks for her to hand out ...)

And yes, I am speaking from experience. :)

Sincerely hoping your Mom fares well and is on her way home soon. Hospitals are great when you need them but that hopefully won't be long. Take a deep breath and remember to hug her lots. I'm glad she is proud of you. How great is that?

I'm glad you're mother's doing so much better.

And as for her telling everyone about your writing -- hey don't knock it. Your mom could be your #1 PR machine.
