Juggling Knives While Tap Dancing Can Be Such a Yawn
Huh. Probably doesn't trust me on that after that dream I had about juggling knives--sharp ones--while tap dancing in the kitchen.
(No, I haven't upped my cocktail intake, or my caffeine intake, either. Or added any drugs to my daily regimen.)
That ever happen to you? Not the juggling knives while tap dancing thing, the brain not letting you sleep thing.
Never mind. That's boring. In fact, this whole post is making me yawn (see above). So why not head over to The Debutante Ball and read my take on author photos instead? Heck, it has to be better than this.
In the meantime, if you have any tips on how I can get my brain to STFU* at 5 a.m., I'd be much obliged it you'd share them.

Another test post...
Gaaah. Blogger, you so-and-so! Of course you posted my stupid "test post" comment, after you didn't post the witty ones I attempted.
HA! Yeah, my brain has an annoying habit of waking me up in the wee hours, too. For some reason, 4:45 seems to be my internal wake-up call, no matter what time I go to bed. So I don't fight it. Besides, I kinda like getting up that early. (Good thing!)
I think it's an author thing. My brain does the same, except on those days when I actually need to be up early. Then it decides to catch up on its sleep deficit, and I'm blissfully unconscious when the alarm rudely yanks me out of dreamsville.
Sometimes, just for variety, it doesn't want to quit when I go to bed, either. Hubby's quite used to me vacating the bed at midnight to go and write for an hour or two. And then the brain wakes up again at five...
every weekday morning when my alarm goes off, it scares the beejeepers out of me because i'm in such a deep sleep and yet on the weekends, when i *can* sleep in, i wake up at the same time my alarm normally goes off. what gives?!?!
and as for ideas on how to get your brain to STFU at 5am? no clue. i've been having the same issue recently. *sigh* did i mention i love sleep?
I sometimes wonder why my brain is not letting me sleep only to wake up and discover I was worrying about not sleeping in a dream.
I can't help you. 5 am is about the time my brain finally chooses to shut off!
Fortunately my day job is nights.
Are you in the midst of drafting/revising/editing? I couldn't sleep for the first week after beginning my editorial revisions. I dreamed about line edits. Really.
I can't help you, because I couldn't help myself.
A nice shot of whiskey before bed sometimes helped, though. :D
I had trouble posting to my blog this morning, too. Bad Blogger :)
My brain sometimes does this, too. It finally gets tired and crashes, then refuses to function when the body is rested. Takes a bit for them to get in sync again. At least with mine. This happens with me when I'm really crunching on a project.
Apparently whisky helps. (I don't know how true that is, can't stand the stuff). Not sure a tot at 5am is a good idea though!
I'm really good at sleeping. It never seems much of a skill until I hear of people who have trouble doing it and then I'm grateful for my 'talent'.
