Oh, the places you'll go...if you read my book someday!

Since yesterday was Mother's Day, and I'm a mother, I relaxed and played with my toys. Ate good food prepared by people who are not me.

(Huh. I guess the "prepared by people who are not me" part is kind of implied by the word "good." Please excuse the redundancy. I'm a writer -- I should know better.)

I also imbibed a bit. Generally enjoyed the day. But instead of blathering on about Mother's Day, I thought I'd share some of the places Ciel Halligan, the main character in my light urban fantasy, IN A FIX, finds herself in the course of trying to get herself out of said fix.

(Trust me, these are a lot more interesting than pictures of me sitting on the sofa, eating my Mother's Day chocolate and watching Netflix movies via my new Roku streaming player, and reading my new books -- purchased guilt-free with a gift card! -- on my eReader, while wearing my lovely new earrings. Thank you, kiddos and TG! I love you all, and not just because of your impeccable taste in gifts.)

SOME PLACES CIEL VISITS:

Now, those aren't the exact places, of course, or all the places.  Let's call them representative images. I could tell you more about each of them, but not without spoilers, so I won't.

Suffice it to say, Ciel gets around. ;)

Oh, yeah...question time. Hmm...

So, um, do you like to travel? Do you generally go exotic places of your volition, or are you kidnapped by modern-day Vikings while trying to rescue a client, and hauled halfway around the world?

Alternatively:

How about those [insert sports team of your choice]? Aren't they [something/the bomb/craptacular]?

Okay, flaming arrows???? What does Ciel get into?

I do not travel. Hate the thought of it. I lived on the beach for 35 years so I never had to. Now that I'm stuck in the mountains, I'
m planning a trip to the shore this summer with Monster Child. We'll see how it goes.

Wow, ok, I definitely need to know how she gets all these places and gets out of her fix. I'm not too big on traveling, quite the home body, but I LOVE to read about characters traveling, so I can't wait to read your book!

I made a scene in the gym yesterday yelling at the Phillies. They sure know how to flipflop between awesome and pure suck. Strangely most of my traveling has been domestic and urban. Yet because I grew up near a tourist town, when I travel locals never think I'm a tourist. Might have something to do with the fact I don't walk around with that lost and confused look on my face.

Those pictures are cruel teasers of a book that I cannot even pre-order!! You are very sly Linda.

flaming arrows aimed toward le ciel?!!? very interesting. i hope they're aimed at the sky and not at her.... color me intrigued.

as far as my travels, i've gone around the world a bit. well, to europe, nowhere else. i think i'd like to go to a place where flaming arrows are shot. *adds to list*

Way to suck everyone into wanting to read your book, lady! As the French would say, "Vous avez pique ma nez." Been a lot of years since I've had cause to use French so I may have gotten the spelling wrong, but that's one of the idioms that always tickled my funny bone. Translated literally, it means, "You've picked my nose," but idiomatically, it means that you've piqued my curiousity. (See what cool things I teach ya?)

Not so much on the traveling. Would love to see aurora borealis in person some day, and would dearly love to see a duck-billed platypus up close and personal, but these days, you practically have to put dynamite under my backside to get me out of the house.

Heads up! I'm gonna be tagging you on my blog today.

Ooooh...aahhhh... I love to travel!

Ok. Correction. I do NOT like to travel but I do like to go to places I've never been before. Traveling is one of those evil necessities to get me there. LOL

Kidnapped by modern day Vikings? And what's with the barrels? Is she drinking beer from them, or being stuffed into one during said kidnapping? You've certainly got my interest! When did you say this was coming out??

Nice. I can't wait to read your book! I LOVE to travel. One of my favorite things (my other favorite things include eating and napping). :)

Okay, now I seriously need to read your book!!

And of course! I LOVE to travel. Did I tell you we're going to Punta Cana in September. My 3 little monsters included! :D

I've been trying to get kidnapped by Vikings for years, but usually end up back at the Speedway gas station where I started.

I did just come back from Mexico, where the cabana boys were somewhat disappointing. Maybe over the summer, when I get to Lake Cumberland, there will be some backwoods hillbilly hotties (you know, Bo and Luke Duke).

I like the representative images thing! Hmmm...sometimes I like to travel and sometimes I hate it. My current fav sports team is the Rocket Dragons.

I heart you and your wit. Can't wait to read your book! I expect a fabulous book tour so I can get a signed copy!

I can't WAIT for your book to come out. Flaming arrows AND a wedding. What more could a savvy-girl protagonist ask for?

Anne -- Oh, Ciel gets into a lot... ;) I bet you and Monster Child will love your trip to the shore. :)

Michele -- I've become more of a homebody in recent years. I used to LOVE to travel, but frankly it's kind of a PITA now, what with all the security restrictions. But I'm always up for some good armchair travel -- I love reading about exotic places.

Steph -- LOL! You get pretty involved with those Phillies, don't you? And, yes, I am sly. All a part of my clever plot to sell more than three copies of my book someday. Bwah-ha-haaah!

Abby -- Most of my travel has been in Europe, too. As for the flaming arrows...you shall see. *grins mysteriously*

Susan -- Gosh, I hope I've picked lots of noses by the time IN A FIX is released! (Er, wait...oh, what the heck. I'll leave it.) The aurora borealis is on my Must See list, too.

Jessica -- Thanks! :)

Jennifer -- Exactly. The places are great. Getting there, not so much.

Dianne -- Not until July 2012, I'm afraid. Think of this as a great way to practice that whole "delayed gratification" thing. ;)

Kasie -- Thanks! You'll be happy to know IN A FIX also includes eating AND napping!

Monica -- Thank you! And have fun in Punta Cana! (Now going to google "Punta Cana"...)

Teri Anne -- LOL! Real life Vikings might turn out to be as disappointing at real life cabana boys. Sometimes it's best to stick to ficton. ;)

Anita -- Rocket Dragons? What sport are they? (I am a total sports dummy.)

Jen -- Aw, thanks. :) And, eek! Haven't even thought in terms of book tours yet.

Bess -- Thanks! Hope it won't disappoint. :)

Ooh, beaches and sailing ships and... I wish I was there. I love travelling! I wish I could take a sailboat across the Mediterranean to all the ports my heroine visits :-)

Linda G. said...

Hi, Deniz! That would be wonderful, wouldn't it? Maybe you'll do exactly that someday. Perhaps on a book tour. :)

Thank you Linda! I can dream...
