Monday randomness: what genre are you?

I had a busy weekend, full of birthday parties, walks in the sunshine with TG, watching my beloved Redskins lose *bites knuckle and stifles sob*, and mostly reading a certain very engrossing book. Paranormalcy was a true delight. So if today's blog post sucks more than usual, blame Kiersten White.

So, what to blog about? *taps index finger thoughtfully against cheek*

Hmm. *digs into bag of Grab Bag of Random Blog Ideas for Desperate Days*

Uh-oh. Sorry about this...

*clears throat* If you were a piece of fiction, what genre would you be?

Remember, this isn't "What genre do you write?" or even "What genre do you like to read?" I mean, I love to read Urban Fantasy and Paranormal Mysteries, but that doesn't mean I'd like to live them. Vamps and ghouls, werewolves and faeries? Fun to read about other people's run-ins (ha! I typed "fun-ins" at first) with them, but I scare easily in real life. No thank you.

I don't like to shop, nor am I obsessed with shoes, so I don't think I could live out Chick Lit with any authenticity. And I'm not nearly serious and "deep" enough for Literary Fiction.

Historical of some sort, maybe? I am fascinated by the eighteenth century. But...no, I don't think I'd want to live it. I like indoor plumbing too much, so I suppose I'd have to go with something contemporary.

Since we're talking real life, I have to have a Happily Ever After. So some sort of Romance. And (of course) I love to laugh, so I have to have the funny.

So, I guess I'm a Contemporary Romantic Comedy.

How about you?

This is a good question.

I would love to live out some kind of action-driven urban fantasy. I'd want kick ass weapons. And I'd want to kick ass.

My every day life is pretty low key and Mommy like, so my dream world would be something bad ass. And sexy.

Romance all the way.

There is nothing better than to live that great happily ever after.

I think I'm a YA mystery girl. I could solve the (not to gruesome) crime and go on (not too scary) adventures while enjoying my (not too screwed up) friends. The only thing I'd miss is the drinking.

I'd be a mystery/spy novel. Yes, I'm the one who once she gets it into her head that the neighbor is a serial killer, chopping up bodies in his garage and burying them in the backyard under the cover of night, will conduct stakeouts by hiding in her bushes with a pair of night-vision binoculars so that evidence can be gathered to put the limey bastard away for life...er...not that i've ever done that, she says innocently.

I write lighthearted contemporary romances... but I'd have to say I think I would be more of a YA romance. My maturity level seems to be dipping. LOL

I'd have to say I'm women's fiction. Complicated plot with a yearning for happily ever after.

Hmmm... First of all, PARANORMALCY rocked (I've read it twice now).

I'm a little bit in love with the idea of boarding school + secret societies + a little dash of magic (but not enough to really be classified as Fantasy)...so probably YA Adventure/Romance.

Hmm I'm thinking Sci-fi but not the depressing sci-fi where life as we know it is about to end. I'd like to be the Star Trek sci-fi. Flying through space - seeking out new life and new civilizations. To boldly go where no foodie has gone before

I don't know why, but I read the question as "if you were a piece of lotion..." and my mind started veering down inappropriate paths after that.

Uh, I suppose that means I'd be a risque romantic comedy, eh?

Great question. I'd like to either be women's fiction--self-learning and romance plus growth and friendships is the way to go for me--but that's not all I'd be. Oh no. I'd also be something super clever like...like...um...

Let's just stick with women's fiction.

Harley -- I like pretending bad ass and sexy. I have a feeling I'd suck at it in real life, though.

Kelly -- Yup. I'm living my HEA. As an aside, who knew HEA would include so much laundry? Huh. The things you miss if you don't read the fine print. ;)

Lynda -- LOL! With some of the YA I've read lately, you wouldn't have to miss the drinking. ;)

Karla -- Ha! Sounds like you live in an interesting neighborhood.

Jennifer -- Hee. I know what you mean. I'm the only writer of adult fiction in one of my writing groups. I tell them I fit in just fine because I have a juvenile sense of humor. ;)

Piedmont Writer -- That's a good one!

LadyGenette -- Fun! I think I could get into that, in my imagination at least. But I'm a tad old for boarding school in real life.

Sharon -- Just don't stop on the Klingon home world. That food looks hideous. ;)

Tawna -- Snort! Yeah, I'd say you have that right. ;)

Jessica -- Oh, that sounds ominous. Hope your real life is happier than that. :)

Candyland -- Be careful what you wish for--"exciting" leaves open so many possibilities.

Sierra -- Ha. I hear ya. :)

I'm not normally a YA reader but that book has caught my eye. It's on my to read list.

Um, I have no idea. Non-fiction? I am what happens when things start getting real.

Though I think I'd prefer to be some sort of paranormal romance. I want a magical happily ever after.

YA romance - nothing like those flutters and goosebumps from young love :)

Funny, I don't read that, though.

This is a great Monday post - even if I got to it on Tuesday ;-)

What kind would I be or what kind would I want to be? Okay. I would be drama. I would want to be... well I think I'd like to be Arwen, so call that what you will. (kind of joking, sort of)

I saw on your blogger profile that you're into quantum physics? I am also very interested in quantum physics!

KarenG -- I don't read a lot of YA myself, but I sure did enjoy it. :)

Elizabeth -- I guess we're all technically nonfiction, huh? But I'm with you on the magically happily ever after. :)

Tara -- Thanks! Yeah, I know what you mean. We don't necessarily want to live what we like to read...or vice-versa. ;)

Elisabeth -- Oooh, Arwen. Yeah, I could be her. ;) And, yes, I love me some good quantum weirdness. It's just so...fascinating. Even if I don't understand it. Of course, I've read plenty of physicists who've said if you think you understand quantum physics...you're wrong. :)

I'm so behind on my blogs. Boo.

But.

If I was a genre I would literary-paranormal-fantasy. Sighs. Yes, it sucks.

Has that even been done in a novel before? Hmm. Must go look.
