Hot and bothered...

...and not in the good way.

Ugh. It is steamy outside. Hot, hot, hot...but I'm not allowed to complain about it because back in February, during the Snowpocalypse, I swore to myself I would not bitch and moan about weather that does not involve shoveling.

Back then, I would have welcomed 100 degrees F with open arms, while I whispered "Ooooh, hot stuff, burn me some more" in its sizzling little ear.

Yeah. I know. It's all about what you don't have at the moment, isn't it?

But, since I am a woman of my word (even if it's only my word to myself, with nothing signed in blood*), I will now try to come up with:

10 Reasons I Love The Hot Weather

1. I get to walk around barefoot without my feet freezing. I hate wearing shoes, so this is a big plus.

2. CHOCOLATE ICE CREAM!

3. TG grills something delicious almost every night he doesn't have a show or rehearsal. Yum! Plus, no cooking for me--YAY!

4. I don't feel guilty for skipping my daily 2.5 mile walk. In fact, I even feel virtuous about it, because I am sparing some poor stranger the trauma of finding my dead-from-heatstroke body on the trail.

5. VANILLA ICE CREAM! (I'm not that picky about ice cream.)

6. Frosty mugs of icy cold beer.

7. Movie theaters with the a/c cranked up just a little too much, so I have to actually bring a long-sleeved shirt with me.

8. Watermelon. With seeds, without seeds, pink or that weird yellow kind, big or tiny. Doesn't matter to me, 'cuz I loves me some good watermelon.

9. Tomatoes from our garden, eaten still warm from the sun. (Alas, this one will have to wait until they ripen, but it's something to look forward to.)

10. CHERRY ICE CREAM! (Uh, yeah. Told you--not picky.)

How about y'all? Got any reasons that'll make me love this hot weather? I sure could use a few more!

*Okay, that is my official weasel clause, in case I just can't stand it as the thermometer rises, and I let loose with an un-hold-back-able stream of complaints.

you forgot COFFEE ICE CREAM. Particularly good with hot fudge and whipped cream. Watermelon isn't slouchy, either! molly

STRAWBERRY ICE CREAM!! I'm not picky either when it comes to ice cream;)

Um, how about iced coffee? Or flowers in full bloom all over the place? Or how muscles have a hard time being painfully tense when they're so warm? Or not having to wear eleventy billion layers and still suffer from the cold?

Man, I love summer.

The heat makes a great excuse for having lead brain and you're unable to think coherently to write. At least that's my excuse and I'm sticking to it. (Hugs)Indigo

More reasons:

11. Wearing less makeup (otherwise it will drip from your face like a melting candle)

12. Nightly trips to Orange Leaf

13. No one questions the frosty mug of beer at 4:00 b/c they understand you are trying to recreate tropical vacation while at home in tropical heat.

14. Hot temps mean less clothing. In turn, means more skin showing. Ahem...I think you get it. :)

Linda, thanks for the fun read!

I have to confess, I adore scorching hot weather. Bring on the 100-degree heat! We may actually get some late this week, so I'm looking forward to it. Of course it's also not unheard of for it to snow here in July, so I'm braced for anything.

I do love taking the dogs swimming when it gets hot. The relief on their little doggie faces always makes me happy.

I don't see why you can't complain about both. Go ahead. generate an excuse that complaining is the same as using your critical thinking skills and therefore it is an academic pursuit.

I actually love cold crappy weather because it means I have a good excuse for not going outside and instead staying in with my laptop on the couch.

That awesome whir of ceiling fans, soaking one's feet in a bucket of cold water, pretty hand fans and hammocks in the shade. I am a child of endless summer indeed.

Barefoot everywhere is the way to go unless there are really cute flip flops that match the nail polish on my toes.

Molly -- Oooh, coffee ice cream! How could I forget that? Yum! Especially with hot fudge and whipped cream.

Karla -- Strawberry ice cream! Another tasty temptation. I can see most of y'all are with me on the ice cream bandwagon.

Elizabeth -- You're full of good suggestions! Must be your extraordinarily large brain. ;)

Indigo -- Hey, this comment would work for my last post (on "excuses") as well. :)

Hallie -- I never wear much make-up as it is, but I'm always up for another excuse. ;) The 4pm beer and less clothing sound great, too. But I'm not familiar with Orange Leaf--what's that?

Tawna -- You sure have weather extremes there, don't you? Good thing you're up for anything. ;)

Sierra -- I think I'm going to have to grant you an honorary PhD in Rationalization Science. ;) And, really, I'm happy to stay indoors, either reading or writing, in any kind of weather. It's just that when it's nice outside, I feel guilty about it.

SM -- Even more good reasons! I did soak my feet in ice water last summer when our a/c broke (on the hottest day of the whole summer, naturally). Also kept ziplock bags of ice on my neck and lap as I sat in front of the fan, waiting for the repairman to show up. Worked fairly well, but it's not as good as central air. ;)

Floating aimlessly around on a mesh pool float that keeps you wet -- but also in the sun -- so you've got that whole "I can be cool AND hot" thing going for you.

A beverage in hand is icing on the cake, of course.

Good for relaxing ... good for de-stressing ... good for brainstorming solutions to that little WIP problem ...

Linda G. said...

Dianne -- Now, that sounds truly heavenly! If I didn't sunburn so easily (even with sunblock)I'd be tempted to try that. I can totally get behind the beverage idea, though. ;)

You KNOW you had me at #6, girlfriend!!!! You can have ALL the flavors of ALL the ice cream, just save me all the frosty mugs and all the beer!!!!

Bring on the heat! Bring it! I ain't shovelling and I'm far more graceful on dry land with a few beers in me than on snow and ice sober!

Dina Santorelli said...

Looooong summer days that end with my kids still in the pool and me watching the sun set. :)

Linda G. said...

muffintopmommy -- LOL! How 'bout we share the frosty beer? We knock back a few and curse snowstorms together. :)

Dina -- That sounds lovely! I love swimming in the evening--I don't have to worry about sunburn. (Peeling is not a good look for me.)

Orange Leaf is a self-serve yogurt shop that has about 12 different flavored yogurts with a ton of toppings. All help yourself...you pay by the ounce! LOOOVVVEEE IT!! There is another called Peach Wave that is just like it.

I agree with you about this heat. BUT, I tell people in the winter when it's too cold, "I'm going to be the first one bitching about it being too hot in the summer." LOL

There oughta be a law that the temp stays at 70 degrees. (I'm thinking of Camelot, aren't I? LOL)

This is why I live in Florida. We moved here from Alaska. Guess why? The heat. I love it. It's like a facial everyday with the humidity. Thank you south!

Linda G. said...

Donna -- I agree. Let's hear it for 70 year round! MAYBE with a high of 78 or a dip to 62 every now and then, just for variety's sake. ;)

Kelly -- I guess the world needs crazy, heat-loving people too. And Florida is a good place for you if you're that crazy. ;)

LR said...

Clearly the hot weather is a good excuse to walk around naked (or nearly) with a white wine spritzer in hand.

Linda G. said...

LR -- LOL! Here, let me just close the blinds before I try that. Don't want to scandalize the neighbors! ;)

lol I love this! I should complain less as well, but I just don't think I can come up with TEN things to love about Alabama humidity and this sun!

Linda G. said...

Posey -- Well, you'll notice I did have to resort to using separate ice cream flavors to pad the list. Summer heat is tough! ;)

Julie Musil said...

I love your theory on why you're virtuous for not walking! You are such a giver.

Linda G. said...

Julie -- What can I say? I'm a born altruist. ;)

I'm not big on the hot weather either, and miss my walks when it's so stifling :/

But my tomato garden loves the humid, hot air. It won't be long before all those Jet Star tomatoes will be ripe and ready for pickin'!

Linda G. said...

Joanne -- Mmmm. Don't think I've tried Jet Star tomatoes. Though I can't be sure, because honestly? TG does all the gardening. I water occasionally, when he gets too busy at the theater, but mostly just ooh and aah over his efforts & reap the tasty rewards. ;)

Okay, i'm just going to bitch a little here, because i have no AC, and not only that, today my car went haywire and I had to drive for half an hour with the HEAT on full blast to keep it from overheating. BLECH!

But at least you can't (usually) actually DIE from being too hot, as opposed to below zero temps.

Unknown said...

My, what a ray of sunshine-- sorry 'bout that. I'm a bit crabby.

Linda G. said...

pseudosu -- Yuck. My heartfelt sympathies. A heatwave without a/c available is no fun at all. Don't blame you a bit for feeling a bit crabby.

That same thing with the car happened to TG once, on a cross-country trip to Texas. He drove the last couple hundred miles with the heater belching fire at him--it's a story he never tells with a smile on his face. Hope the weather AND your car improve soon. :)

Hey there Linda! Stumbled upon your blog through an assortment of writing websites (alas, there are so many open I couldn't tell you which one!). Just wanted to say I'm from Florida and want to bitch about the heat myself but am refraining...but I love your list!

Also, I've read through some of your blog and I adore your sense of humor. Hope you don't mind if I park and follow! :)

Linda G. said...

Hi Meadow! Welcome to this little corner of my reality--so glad to hear you've been enjoying my posts. :)

Of course I don't mind if you park and follow--I'd love you to stick around. And bitch about anything you like. ;)

I will willing trade you 120 degree Arizona monsoons for snow. I'll just call up my boyfriend and make him shovel it.

Linda G. said...

Hi LadyGenette! Maybe you could send me your boyfriend next winter. If he's good with a shovel, I'm sure I'll be able to use him come December. ;)
