*Sniff, Sniff* Is That a Rose I Smell?

Please pardon this self-indulgence, but I'm going to share a few things with you that I, as a writer, find cool.

Those of you who are writers yourselves know it can be long, arduous road to publication, with lots of bumps and bruises along the way. But it helps it to stop and smell those proverbial roses along the way. Celebrate, if only in a minor way, the nice little moments. Don't just whizz by them while running toward the next major hurdle -- stop and appreciate them. Smile at them. Inhale deeply. Remind yourself it's not all potholes and skinned egos.

The roses I'm stopping to smell today:

Click here to go peek inside.

I love the "look inside" feature at Amazon! I do it all the time with other people's books. It's fun. The next best thing to being in a brick and mortar store and fondling the book itself. And now it can be my book other people are virtually fondling!

(Hey, like I said, it's the little things...)

The second rose I'm smelling is the Giveaway at GoodReads. Tor has put ten copies of In a Fix up for grabs. You can enter (it's easy--just click the "Enter" button there) up until Aug. 10th. There's even a nifty countdown feature. Click here if you want to see it. And, yannoh, enter. (Hey, you could get a FREE COPY. That way, if you think it sucks, at least you didn't spend your hard-earned money on it.)

If you can't decide if you want to enter to win a free copy, you can always go look inside first. ;)

What little things in life have you smelled--er, appreciated--lately?

The look inside feature is great - I've already had my virtual fondle!

Anne -- Thanks! I hope you win one. :)

Patsy -- So, was it good for you, too? ;)

Since I just went through this experience a month or two ago, I remember it clearly. Enjoy! (I still like going over and looking inside. Don't tell anyone!)

Ah, I love the little things! My ice maker in my refrigerator is fixed and life is good again. LOL

Just entered the giveaway!

I am here to testify (can I get an "Amen!"?) that this doesn't suck, and if you don't win, it's totally worth your hard-earned money (unless you can talk someone else into buying it for you).

I'm currently toting Ciel around with me and so far she's participated in a morning of shooting with my girls, hardcore grocery shopping, protected me from a giant dragonfly, gone to a Rascal Flatts concert, and is going to do some important neuroscience today...not a boring girl, not at all!

Carol -- Crazy, isn't it? I'm glad I'm not the only secret virtual book fondler. ;)

Jennifer -- Thanks! And I'm glad you have ice again. :)

Elisabeth -- Thanks so much. :)

Teri Anne -- You took Ciel to a Rascal Flatts concert? I'm jealous!! And thanks for those Twitter pics of In a Fix doing all those fun things. TG is especially thrilled with the girls with guns. ;)

Oh, I LOVE the look inside feature on Amazon too!!! I'm so happy that you have it now. It's so exciting, huh? I'll tweet about this right away! <3

K-pop -- Oooh! That felt good. *shivers*

Monica -- Thanks, Moni! Yeah, it's pretty exciting. (Yeah, I get excited about weird stuff.)

Watching the stages of your book going live on Amazon is exciting -- first the listing, then the cover, then the Look Inside ... I won't mention the sales rank, because that's a roller coaster ride.

Recently, I had the chance to approve the jacket copy for my book (yay!) and got a hint of what's going on the cover, although I haven't seen it yet.

Wow, the excerpt is absolutely fantastic. (Not that I'm surprised.) But I mean really, reeeeeally fantastic. Your books are gonna knock the socks off the reading public. (if they're wearing any) I can hardly wait to read the rest of this book.

i've been lucky enough to have had a physical fondle (lucky ARC), but that virtual fondle re-whet my appetite for my own copy. i can't wait!

Such a beautiful cover. A combination of the woman, so strong and determined, and the softer, misty background. They've done you proud.

So many congratulations.

Dianne -- Yes,let's just ignore that pesky sales rank. I've seen my go up and down and up and down like a teeter-totter, often within the space of a few days. Heck if I can figure out their algorithm. *grin*

Susan -- Aw, thanks. *blushes* I can't wait for you to read it!

Abby -- Oooh, that physical fondle! I may have to fan myself. ;)

Jo -- Thank you so much! It's good to see you. :)

I love the little things in life. Recently my husband bought me a one cup coffee maker and it's made my life so easy.

I love that "look inside" feature, too! But... *sniffles*... Goodreads won't let me enter - it's for US folks only. :-(

But that's okay. It's just whetting my appetite!

Linda G. said...

Clarissa -- It really is the little things that add up to big contentment, isn't it?

Diane -- Awww, man. I'm sorry. Would it be too much trouble for you to move to the US? ;)

Love it, it is all about the little things. It was so fun getting your bookmarks. They inspire me and a treat to get things like that in the mail. So happy for you! Lately, I appreciate air conditioning more than ever. :-) So darn hot.

Linda G. said...

Tracy Jo -- Glad you like the bookmarks! :)

What a wonderful reminder to us all - writers and bloggers alike; stopping to smell the "roses" is vital and keeps us grounded.

I am looking forward to reading your book.

Cheers, Jenny

I told my daughter about your book after reading the arc. When she finished the book she was reading, she wanted yours. She was very disappointed when I told her I couldn't let her read it and had, in fact, already mailed it on. Guess I better go over to goodreads, huh?
I smelled an actual rose this weekend and it smelled gorgeous.

Triple-J -- I hope you win a copy, and that your daughter enjoys it. :)
