Know what's worse than Monday?

Ugh. Sick. Sorry, cannot be clever today. My clever is broken.

But I do want to say welcome -- and thanks -- to all of you who've added me to your blog rolls!

And if you have any good home remedies for sore throats and coughs, I'm all ears. Bonus points if they involve a good, stiff belt of something suitably numbing.

  1. My father's always used this, a cup of tea, two teaspoons of honey and a good shot of Jamison's. Hope you feel better soon.

  2. I've always been a big fan of Nyquil. Or Jagermeister. Tastes kind of the same, works about the same.

  3. Ha! Teri is right. Like I always say, go ahead and drink alcohol, it won't make you better but you won't care. ;)

  6. I'm a fan of staying in my pjs, pulling the shades, snuggling under my covers -- and sleeping for about 18 hours. Of course, since the advent of motherhood, I cope with hot tea and lots of DayQuil/Niquil.

Hope you feel better really soon. *sends chicken soup*

  9. Nyquil during the day. It's risky but if you can push through the sleepy siren of sleep (which you'd already be doing of course) then it's great for the cough and body ache.

If not, tea. Helps two fold-lots of honey will help your throat and putting a towel over your head with the mug of steaming tea under will help with the cough.

    So sorry, bb.

*virtual chicken soup* Um, with a shot of something numbing in it, if you like...

  11. Aw, poor you. That sucks.

Wish I had a marvellous home remedy, but I don't. *Sending carrot and ginger soup now* (it sounds gross, but it's actually delicious and feels good on your throat).

    Hope you feel better soon.

  13. I always go with hot tea. Ginger root tea especially when you're sick. Adding honey will sooth the throat but it's too sweet for me.

Old fashioned rememdy - go to bed wearing a good coating of Vicks vap-o-rub over your chest, covered with a small towel under your pj's to hold in the warmth. Dub a little under your nose, too. Breaks up chest congestion better than anything.

  14. Feel better!
I always drink hot tea with honey when I'm sick. (which you could spike with something stronger if needed!)

  15. Awww sorry you're under the weather. Gargle with apple cider vinegar and try some honey with a little vinegar and some cayenne pepper in it for the cough. Feel better.

  16. Vodka martinis are good when you *think* you might be getting sick. Kill those germs dead before they get the chance to replicate!

After the fact ... all the above suggestions are good. Along with sinus irrigation.

  18. You poor thing. But have I ever got a terrific old-fashioned cure for you. Since you're feeling so crappy, your sweet hubby will have to pick the pine needles and do the preparations for you. Here's what you need:

about half a dozen fresh green pine needles (wash them and break into little pieces) Then put into a little pot with

    2 cups water
    1 tablespoon honey
    juice from half a lemon
    bottle cap full of bourbon

Boil for ten minutes. Drain off the debris. Drink. (Skoal!)

  22. Husband swears by a hot rum toddy made his way: two jiggers rum, one jigger of hot water, generous slug of butter, pinch of sugar. Water should be hot enough to melt the butter and dissolve the sugar. Stir and sip or slug.

    Get better soon!
